Having a baby on the way is one of the most exciting moments in anyone’s life and there is no better way to celebrate than to throw a baby shower. If you’ve been invited to a baby shower, you’ll need to purchase a gift for the new mother and/or the baby.
That doesn’t mean that you have to spend an arm and a leg. I recommend trying to find a gift that’s practical and useful – those always seem to be the best! Getting the right gift ideas can be a difficult thing so I’m going to go over some of the best baby shower gifts of 2013. Have a look – be inspired!
#10 – Diaper Bags
Changing diapers isn’t any parent’s most desirable task when taking care of a newborn. A lot of people just think, “Hey I’ll just buy a pack of diapers and I’ll be set.” But unfortunately it sometimes becomes a little more complicated than that.
Any new parent will need to bring extra diapers and changing equipment along with them wherever they go. A diaper bag gives them an excellent way to organize what would otherwise be a cluttered mess. They offer several compartments with plenty of space to fit all the essentials.
#9 – Baby Swings
Many swings will have several features that help the development of the baby’s brain by encouraging reach, touch, and feel. This is often achieved by colorful objects or toys located on the swing that are designed to promote interaction.
Look for one from a reputable brand that’s well reviewed and popular. I recently reviewed the top five baby swings which would be an excellent place to look if you’re interested in purchasing a baby swing as a gift for the baby shower.
#8 – Teethers
Within just the first few months of their new life, a baby will need a teether to chew on while they’re going through the development stage where their teeth begin to come through. Most parents won’t own one of these yet as many don’t think about buying one until a few months into development. Because of this, they make an excellent gift.
One that caught my attention was the Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether. It’s made from 100% natural materials and free from any toxins such as BPA or Phthalates. Best of all, their affordable at under $20, and very practical – every mother will have a use for one.
#7 – Baby Bottles
One gift that most parents could use, even if they already have some, are baby bottles. They are often sold in multiple quantities or starter sets that offer a wide range of sizes, making them a great gift idea.
If you’re interested in baby bottles as a gift, you should probably buy a few of them. Moms will often find that a large supply of extra bottles comes in handy since you can dedicate some for ‘on the go’ use and others for ‘at home’ use. Glass or plastic? Well it doesn’t really matter – but if you go for plastic make certain that they don’t have any BPA! A couple weeks ago I reviewed the top rated baby bottles for 2013 with an updated list of a great selection.
#6 – Baby Monitors
A high tech gift is something that anyone loves. It’s true – there is some really cool technology out there when it comes to baby monitors. You can give mom and dad a close eye on their baby’s crib by placing a video baby monitor in the nursery. A lot of them have features such as color video, sound, movement detection, and even night vision!
Although they do cost a bit of money, they make an excellent gift that any parent will surely enjoy. If you’d like to save a bit of money, there are always one’s that only transmit sound and they’re much less expensive and affordable for most budgets.
#5 – Convertible Car Seats
Transporting baby in the car will require a safe and reliable car seat. Every parent will need one and often times convertible car seats are the one’s you’ll want to have. Unlike your standard infant car seat, a convertible car seat will literally transform and adapt to the growing child. They often last several years and can be used for multiple children.
Some features you’ll want to look out for in the best convertible car seat is if it’s Federal Crash Test approved. Many are designed using EPS foam that absorbs energy upon a vehicle collision so they’re designed to keep children safe and secure in the unfortunate event of an accident. A safety harness keeps them upright and in the proper position for the car ride ahead of them.
#4 – Baby Blankets
Affordable and very practical, a set of baby blankets makes an excellent gift choice and it’s another item that parents can’t possibly get enough of. They’re made from incredibly soft materials that provide a soft and warm feel that gives babies the security they most desire while in the crib or mother’s arms.
If you know if it’s a boy or a girl you can buy blankets that are gender specific, but if you can’t – don’t worry since there are several gender neutral colors available. Plus, they’re easy on the budget so you can usually get a lot for a little. I recommend buying blankets that are made from 100% cotton since they seem to be the most comfortable and warmest.
#3 – Carriers
One of the best ways to help make any newborn feel at home is to carry them around in a baby carrier. They keep the parent’s hands-free so they can complete a multitude of daily tasks while keeping as close as possible to their little one.
You can choose from different styles from various brands that securely hold the child on the front of your body with several adjustment straps to achieve the most comfortable fit possible. They’re an excellent and more practical alternative to wrapping up the baby in a warm blanket and carrying them around. Most enjoy them as they seem to help calm any whining baby in a matter of minutes!
#2 – What a Cutie Pie Gift Basket
The What a Cutie Pie Gift Basket is a great way to help celebrate a newborn by providing an adorable assortment of color coordinated clothing and accessories that will be used on a regular basis. Available in either blue, cream, or pastel pink, it comes with a set of booties, a body suit outfit, bib, blanket, burp cloth, 2 washcloths, and a cute teddy bear.
It’s wrapped up in a ready-to-give package with a wicker hamper basket that has several uses around the nursery. These are hand-crafted and includes a card that can be personalized with whatever message you’d like.
#1 – Little Shoe Socks
Talk about a cool and adorable gift! Known as the Luvable Friends Little Shoe Socks, they aren’t actually shoes – but they look just like them! They’re comfortable socks suitable for babies who range from newborn on up to 9 months and are machine washable. Made from 73% cotton, 25% nylon, and 2% spandex, they keep little feet and toes warm while providing a cute way to dress the baby.
They’re come in a gift pack of 3 different pairs in either a blue or pink style – making them suitable for both girls and boys! This is the kind of present that will make you excited for the new mom to open and once they do, they’ll think they’re the cutest things they’ve ever seen. Trust me!
